Fills us with joy,

Get us singing

Get us dancing

Bring us to tears,

Serve as a time machine.

A Midnight Ride On The Roseneath Carousel

At midnight

The lights go on

Seated

On colourful horses

Spectres of long ago

Dressed in their finest

Nod to their host

They patiently

Await

The sounds

Of the paper fed

Wurlitzer organ

Creating music

From across time

Suddenly

The bump and grind

Of old metal

Begins

Moving

Up and down

Down and up

Turning the carousel

Round and round

Its riders

Clap

Laugh

Giggle

Converse

While visions

Dance through the air

Repeating scenes

From

The Carousel’s history

After the requisite time

The music signals

The end of the ride

The lights turn out

Leaving its guests fulfilled

For another night

When you think of me

You feel it in your heart

The aching that carries on

Long after we depart

But is the bushell half full?

Are you underselling you?

Time to open your eyes

Voices echo in the dark

A master plan no one could devise

In The End

The central theme was growing cold

White lightning searching for a new home

Trees shiver and they moan

Their time on land is on loan

Better people should have known

In silence they still groan

The seeds have been sown

Those with eyes have to be shown

That life is good and time has flown

There is nothing that they own

Unless they are quite bold

Moss isn’t only on trees

You can’t do what you please

Life is but a good tease

We live beyond our means

Reaching for more it always seems

But

In the end

There is only

Our life to live
