Ode To 1960

Ode To 1960

You could hear it in his voice

Raising octaves

Moving mountains

Creating caring

Making you believe

In lost loves

Heartbroken

Lonely times

He was your friend

Singing hours on end

Always there on demand

Spinning tales

In haunting tones

Touching everyone all alone

I miss those quiet times

Where his song was all

That was on my mind

Where Have All The Heroes Gone?

Where Have All The Heroes Gone?

Heroes come and heroes go

As of their own accord

Until we apply new standards

That sew some discord

You can’t compare the past

With what we would do today

The embodiment of our lives

Doesn’t work in yesterday

As heroes they stand alone

For all that they qualities they possess

The litmus test of centuries

How they performed under duress

No one would hold up

To a standard so strict

That there is no appeal

Where have all the heroes gone

No one is that ideal

Your Love Is True

Your Love Is True

Love is here

A love so true

A love I need

Built with someone like you

Love’s lessons

Have been sent on their way

Love I need is here to stay

It is a brand new day

Love’s lessons

Have washed over me

Opened my eyes

Helped me see

I feel the love

Coming from you

Yes your love is true

Warmth of heart

Warmth of word

Warm with feeling

It’s taking me to

Love’s lessons

Have washed over me

Opened my eyes

Helped me see

I feel the love

Coming from you

Yes your love is true

It Couldn’t Make You Stay

It Couldn’t Make You Stay

I moved mountains

I wrote this song

Tried to see

What went wrong

It couldn’t make you stay

I rode the wave

I stood up for you

Tried to be

Did what I could do

It couldn’t make you stay

Hearts on fire extinguish with time

Set new rules to be outlined

Speaking words told one story

Certainly not a blaze of glory

I held your hand

I touched your heart

That made us

See a spark

It couldn’t make you stay

Two Sides

Two Sides

It was Wednesday morning

It was 3 am

A fox went by the window

A coyote screamed here I am

While there may have been silence

It demonstrated lack of faith

There was a constant worry

A look for a collective save

Oh in the silence

A mind may not abate

Thoughts of constant borrow

Thoughts arriving way too late

As they search for a solution

An end game is not in place

Some players are not worried

It will not affect their fate

The paths they have chosen

The worlds they do inflate

The need for no attention

The need no one can relate

It Wasn't You

It Wasn't You

Whose expectations are on your mind

Whose thoughts are being defined

Whose ideas are being assigned

Is it you?

Who is being maligned

Whose ideas a being declined

Whose words are being confined

Is it you?

What is being outlined,

What is being streamlined

What is being aligned

Is it yours?

What have you designed

What have you refined

What have you enshrined

Is it yours?

If I had been Inclined

I would have combined

I could be been behind

It wasn’t you

I can’t be unkind

 I have to be resigned

In order to remind

It wasn’t you?

Just A Lark

Just A Lark

Something simple

Something obtuse

Something dreadful

Just to confuse

Something deep

Something dark

All of it

For

Just a lark

When the wind

Blows the clouds away

You wish the sun

Would always stay

Nice and warm

And so close

In your heart

You never know

Something so far

Something so close

Comparison

Who ever knows

Ask your heart

Ask your brain

All of it

For

Just a lark

Walking Blind

Walking Blind

Define a moment

Define a time

Walk away

Walk the line

Open thoughts

Confound the mind

I am always

Walking blind

There are words

And there is me

Strolling along

With misery

Open thoughts

Confound the mind

I am always

Walking blind

Feeling lonely

Feeling blue

Looking for

Something to do

Open thoughts

Confound the mind

I am always

Walking blind

In What I Need

In What I Need

An act of god

An act of faith

I truly

Cannot embrace

An act of love

I’m no fool

Spent too much time

Loving you

An open mind

An open heart

I truly

Cannot jump start

There’s too much pain

Left inside

I cannot run

I cannot hide

When hearts break down

Like pouring pain

Love will never

Be the same

In my heart

I’ve learned to be

One who trusts

In what I need

Recapturing Time

Recapturing Time

A calliope plays

Loudly in the background

Grinding noises come to light

The shrill sounds of laughter

As the horses rise and fall

Marching to their own beat

Traveling in circles

Forty chances to be part of the crowd

Enjoying what is now historical

But once was a part of carnival life

Parents stand and stare

Familiar with the carousel

Memories resurface

And are embedded

Blended with children’s thoughts

To create an atmosphere of wonder

Of awe

Of the joy

Their youth held

Easing tensions

Celebrating

With quiet thoughts

The life they know
