On Laurel Canyon Road

On Laurel Canyon Road

I see you sitting there

A blade amongst the grass

Gently strumming your guitar

May this moment last

Sharing ideas and building minds

Watching thoughts truly flow

Living a dream to exist

On Laurel Canyon road

You break out in harmony

Blend your voice tempting fate

Invite others to join in

No one will ever be late

Sharing theories and exploring thoughts

Writing a song or two

Friends forever sing along

Creating extra room

And when the morning comes

You pick your way through the mess

Writing inviting poetry

On your way to more success

So Focused

So Focused

Taken away by vision

Solo in solitude

Inspired writing

Without distractions

No matter who else

Was in the room

Plucking away at the piano

Noodling on the guitar

Words flowing with decisions

Rewriting by the bar

And in the end

It was clear

When she returned

And sought company

That writing was

Intensely personal

So focused

And ahead

By far

Never Been Heard

Never Been Heard

Books and music

Filled her dreams

Playing with words and phrases

Passed her day

Coalescing

Unifying

Creating

With unparalleled beauty

That really was her way

Among her artistic statements

Among her passionate romance

Stands naked a stunning beauty

Ready to take a chance

New thoughts and ideas

New expressions

Lit the way

Testimonials to living

Testimonials to having a say

Come on let’s hear your words

Let's hear your music too

Let’s listen to the sounds of reality

As they have never been heard

Unresolved Chords

Unresolved Chords

Twas a journey fraught with pain

Disturbing sequences

With nothing to gain

No inner voice

Spoke of restraint

Frustration ruled

And remains

Filling up my day

So now I must return

Old beginnings

I never learned

Where new born thoughts

Were often spurned

No love lost

No love earned

Shouldn't be this way

Purpose and meaning

Misconstrued

As a result

It seemed so rude

No satisfaction

In being crude

I’ve learned in life

To have my say

Tension opens

Another door

Another world

To explore

Wondering what

Is in store

To send this journey

On it’s way

Hanging out

Away from home

Living the life

I have roamed

At times I’ve felt

I’ve been entombed

From moving

So far away

Would you mind if

I hung out here

Mending fences

My mind will clear

Learning lessons

That will endear

Cadences

Will earn their pay

Who I Am

Who I Am

If you hold sand

Too tightly in your hand

It will slip through your fingers

I can’t bare to linger

I can’t stay behind

I can’t stay in love

Time is really ticking

My life isn’t enough

I have to move on

I have to find a better place

Trust in all my instincts

In me I must place my faith

This isn’t goodbye

This isn’t the end

I have to find my place

And be who I am

Far Away

Far Away

Here I sit above you

Lights shining in my face

Telling stories of my life

Sharing time and space

It makes me uncomfortable

It makes me sad to say

I am here for you

I’d rather be far away

It’s not that I don’t like you

I don’t know you at all

But here you sit enchanted

Completely within my thrall

It makes me uncomfortable

It makes me sad to say

I am here for you

I’d rather be far away

Life holds its meaning

My job is to entertain

I am comfortable in small clubs

Where I can see everyone’s face

It’s like performing in my living room

With all my friends who care

I can feel their emotions

It makes me so aware

So you will have to forgive me

When I finish singing this song

I need to leave here

You need to move along

Thank you for this moment

Thank you for your time

See you in the clubs

I will perform there next time

A Name On The Door

A Name On The Door

First a coffee

Then a beer

Then a cold calculated look

Destined to inspire fear

I laughed and responded

In a most peculiar way

The name on the door

Does not hold sway

Point of Inquiry

Point of Inquiry

Feathered pillows nestled

Carefully across your hips

Moments of quiet desperation

Never once uttered

In a closed room

Awaiting service at 12 noon

After the waiter left

And we devoured our meal

Silent satisfaction settled in

Warm in the sunlight

And you , you were

Up for a fight

Point of inquiry

A moment in time

Questions asked

But not answered

Seeking new points of inquiry

To settle a disturbed mind

There was hope but

it was all in vain

Love was not a memory

That was destined to win

We could shove it all forward

We could bury it in the past

But with a point of inquiry

Nothing was built to last

A Jazz Club

A Jazz Club

Soft intonations

Filled the bar soaked room

Seeking affirmations

Not a moment too soon

Calling out loving sounds

That did not sound like love

Lifting spirits

Guided from above

Gentle whispers

Over well tended drinks

Voices differ

About what people think

Jazz like sounds

Seeking to explore

Mind wide open

Stepping through the door

It was only a moment

Then it was gone

The words carried

Weight from then on

Momentum building

From that one piece

It was something

No one could ever believe
