Three Short Poems 2

Perpetuating A Myth

Openly honouring

By creating a statue

Or naming a building

Is perpetuating a myth

That others value

A person

The same way you do

Such Negativity

Such negativity

Shared out in the open

Lacking the respect to stay quiet

And demonstrating what we all know

An Argument

Fascinated as I am by this

I get the sense that something is amiss

As much as I want to agree

Your statement does nothing for me

We can argue til the break of dawn

But that doesn’t mean that either

Of us are wrong

Egocentric Pasts

Egocentric Pasts

History changes

Our understanding

Perpetuating the myths

Of an egocentric past

What was done was done

With different values

Different understandings

Different perspectives

That no longer exist

No better

No worse today

Than it ever was

Our forefathers

We would not approve of today

We don’t need another hero

We need a different understanding

Mythic Symbolism Is Overrated

Mythic Symbolism Is Overrated

In a flurry of words

Where others views

Were held as true

Where their perceptions

Were forced

Wanted or not

Where it was not understood

That each individual

Was their own person

Where equality meant acceptance

Where each person was simply

Who they were

No need for rewards

No need for commendations

Or medals

No need for recognition

Just accepting

It was a part

Of their lives

And move on

Setting examples

For a better world

Work Completed

Work Completed

Labouring under the burden

Obtaining awards

Sanctioned by others

For following orders

For doing your job

For being lucky

To not implode under the stress

For being who you are

And doing what you do

For living and breathing

And seeking satisfaction

In a job well done

One exists to serve

Not be rewarded

Work is completed

To improve the lives

Of those you love

Day By Day

Day By Day

She read her book to me

Day by day

She read her bible to me

Day by day

She read the riot act to me

Day by day

She said I need to change

Day by day

Day by day

Night by night

I need more

Sweet delight

Day by day

Oh day by day

I keep trying

Day by day

And when the day is gone

And evening passes through

I keep looking

For something new

Day by day

I’m looking just for you

Day by day

Night by night

Somethings never change

Day by day

It don’t feel right

Day by day

Night by night

I wish I had more

Sweet delight

I wish I had more

Day by day

Sweet delight

Day by day

Burning late

Day by day

Into the night

Day by day

Night by night

Day by day

I need some more

Sweet delight

She Rose

She Rose

She rose before sunrise

Leaving her sleeping form behind

Wandering through the garden

Gazing into the unknown

She disrobed gently

Before lying down

Fallen leaves around her

Doe eyed creatures

Gazing on with valor

A subtle salute

To days gone by

A note of sadness

Tinged their demeanor

Restless dreams

Sheets in disarray

Failure of the fathers

Repose on display

Words echo

In silent salute

Guardians,watchdogs

Always resolute

In the morning snow

She lies in comfort

Quietly napping

Apple in her hand

Surveying all

Who walk about the land

Three Short Poems

Last Words

She whispered

As the waves rose

In silent splendor

Twisting and turning

The funnel grew

Blocking out the sun

“This is madness I cried”

Trees were uprooted

Sequences were rendered

“If you only knew”

Were the last words

She entered

Era Dilemma

Grey hairs

Plucked

With such dignity

Securing a moment

Where fate and time cross

Creating a promise

Built upon a need

It can’t

It won’t

It will never be

Moving Forward With Dignity

The light shines around her

Questioning

Requesting

Gently

Moving forward with dignity

Where Do I Begin?

Where Do I Begin?

She played piano

I sat there in total awe

Mesmerized by the sounds

The tones that were drawn

Thunder rattled the air

Yet she played on

Unaware, unassuming

Focused until dawn

Her heart was broken

At least I think it was

Such sadness was flowing

Tears were not enough

Heavy of heart

Words floating on the wind

It made me wonder

Made me feel the world’s sin

She played the piano

Touching on my soul

I sat there entranced

Under her control

She opened her eyes

Then she let me in

In her presence

Where do I begin?

Another Round Of Gin

Another Round Of Gin

I put one and one together,

Trying to piece it out

I put two and two together,

It made them scream and shout

I could keep using numbers

I could say it with a grin

Bartender bring me

Another round of gin

I stood there playing tunes

Late into the night

Raising such a ruckus

Filling them with delight

Boom boom I said

Just to get me in

Bartender bring me

Another round of gin

I stood there late at night

On that lonely stage

Singing with great gusto

All the latest greatest rage

Didn't see it coming

Much to my chagrin

Bartender bring me

Another round of gin
